Web info sessions on new master of communications management degree program

Back in May my post Stamp of approval on (distinctly Canadian) master’s of communication management degree program generated some great discussion and interest; this DeGroote School of Business program at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario) continues to receive a decent number of hits from searches. Great news! Now interested individuals can take advantage of a series of web-based information sessions, to learn more about the program.

I received an invitation from Dr. Terence Flynn, APR, assistant professor and director of the Master of Communications Management Degree Program (MCM) to attend one of two sessions being held next week. My interest is piqued in finding out more about the program, as I’d like to see how much influence my focus group had on the final version of this inaugural offering.

I checked it out with Terry this morning, and he indicated that readers of PR Conversations are more than welcome to register for the presentation and discussion. (The program is open to any senior practitioner that qualifies, regardless of nationality.)

  1. Thanks for this, Judy. I have signed up for Monday. It will be interesting to hear how this masters is structured.

I was one of the first students to sign up for the coursework masters in Strategic Communication Management at the University of Pretoria when it started in 1995 (and then I taught 4 subjects when this became a web-based masters in 2002). All I can say is that it was one of the most stimulating experiences I have ever had. Yes, it was tough to work and study at the same time, but worth every sleepless night. I notice this amongst my current masters students as well. They react as though they have been subjected to a 1000v electrical charge. I think that one learns so much more when you have experience to relate new knowledge to. (I am not in favour of students going straight into masters from previous studies).
