Markus Pirchner
After deciding against an academic career as an historian I started my working life as a journalist for various trade magazines in Vienna, Austria. In 1987 I “changed sides”, and following a short intermezzo as freelancing PR consultant I worked in the corporate communications department of a large (then state-owned) industrial holding company.
1994 saw the start of my own PR consultancy, which was later renamed “future bytes” and which has been focusing on using the internet for public relations.
I have been a member of PRVA, the Austrian PR Association, for more than 20 years, and from 1997 to 2003 member of its board and am currently PRVA’s “International Affairs Officer”. I’ve been heading the association’s “Online Relations” working group (which has now been renamed “PR 2.0? working group) and I’m in charge of PRVAnews, the online magazine of PRVA.
