João Duarte

joao_duarte.jpgJoão Duarte (Portugal) is currently Head of International Internal Communication at Enel SpA, a multinational utility operating in 22 countries. He previously served as Executive Officer for the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, the network of professional associations in the field of Public Relations. He has also worked as PR and Communication specialist for UCI Financial Group, a joint-venture between the BNP Paribas Group and the Santander Group, for the French 3 Suisses international Group (catalogue sales) and for the Portuguese Ministry of Economy (Institute for the Support of the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises). He was also PR professor since 2001, having lectured several undergraduate and postgraduate courses at different Universities, mainly in Public Relations and Communication Theory. He is currently invited professor at Lisbon’s Superior School of Mass Communication and Media Arts (Escola Superior de Comunicação Social) where he currently teaches in the Master in Strategic Public Relations Management.

In the field of research, João Duarte has earned his MSc (2005) from New University of Lisbon with a thesis on the topic “Contributions to an integrated theory of ‘Publics’ in Public Relations” and is finishing his PhD at Madrid’s Complutense University.

He is a member of the European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA) and the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD), a former member of CERP Students and PRIME, and founding president of APERPEC – the Portuguese Association of Public Relations and Communication Students.
