Benita Steyn

bsteyn.jpgAfter spending 13 years in the South African diplomatic service (Stockholm, New Orleans, Lima, New York and Hamburg) and 16 years as a public relations practitioner (in South Africa and New York), Benita joined the Dept of Marketing and Communication Management at the University of Pretoria, South Africa where she lectured from 1996-2003.

In 2000, she obtained a master’s degree in Communication Management cum laude on the topic: “Strategic management roles of the corporate communication function” and published it the same year as “Corporate Communication Strategy”. This book formed the core of the strategy formulation and planning components of a software program for the management of the public relations function, developed by Digital Management AG of Switzerland.

In addition to authoring 46 international and national conference papers as well as various academic and industry publications, Benita has twice been awarded “Educator of the Year” by the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa. Since 2003, she has been a part-time lecturer/research supervisor for the web-based Master’s programme in Public Relations Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town.
